Charity oil changes going to family of deceased officer

James Garnand, owner of Hi-Tech Car Care, is raising money for the family of deceased Phoenix police officer Barry Scott with a "name-your-own-price" oil change, with all proceeds going to Scott's family.
Scott died last week after collapsing following a charity boxing match. A veteran of the Iraq war, Scott joined the Phoenix Police Department in 2007. He was 22 years old.
Garnand's younger brother, a detective in Tucson, once participated in a similar fundraising boxing match.
"About a week later he was in the hospital, and they had to drill a hole in his head," Garnand said. "It's so personal, I just felt I had to do something about it."
Customers will be able to decide what price they pay when purchasing a certificate for an oil change, which must be scheduled this year. That certificate covers the cost of the oil, oil filter and any additional fluids the vehicle needs.
That amount is then deposited into a bank account opened for Scott's widow and infant son.
Garnand hopes customers will dig deep into their wallets to help out the family.
