Beanie emerging as big weapon for Cardinals

by John Boes/Sports 620 KTAR (November 15th, 2009 @ 6:32pm)

Glendale, Ariz. - Cardinals running back Beanie Wells continues to become a bigger part of the Arizona offense every week.

Wells was instrumental in leading the Cardinals back from an early deficit to defeat the Seattle Seahawks 31-20.

Wells gained 85 yards on the ground for the game with 75 of them coming in the second half when the Cardinals had to rally from a 17-10 halftime deficit.

Wells showed off his explosiveness on his first touchdown run of 10 yards that tied the game at 17 in the third quarter.

"I saw the whole defensive front go down and I bounced it out," said Wells.

However, Wells' second touchdown run of 13 yards was even more impressive as he barreled through multiple defenders to put the Cardinals up for good at 24-20.

"My offensive line opened it up great and I wasn't going to be denied at the goal line," said Wells.

Wells didn't get much playing time to start the season, due to his struggles with pass protection and fumbling issues, but now the Cardinals' first-round draft pick is becoming a factor opposing teams will have to game-plan against.

"We're seeing the real Beanie Wells. We all see why we drafted him where we did" said Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner.

Wells has been waiting for his opportunity to shine on the field.

"I just had to work on patience and my teammates around me have been keeping me humble and grounded and letting me know when my opportunity comes I have to be ready to step in and do something," said Wells.

The Cardinals ability to run the ball opened up the team's offense to throw the ball down the field because the Seahawks had to bring extra defenders up to the box to stop the run.

As a result, Kurt Warner had a great day finding open receivers in favorable one-on-one match-ups.

Warner finished up his day throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 29 passes out of 38 attempts.

"Just a fun way to win a game," said Warner.

However, Wells was the star on this day as the Cardinals' plan of easing Wells into the line-up is working to perfection.

"We've brought him along at a pace we thought would help him get ready to play. We're a lot more comfortable with him. He's holding onto the football and that's another big thing he's doing," said Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt.

And I knew that eversince I seen him play at Ohio State. Credit to Wells. Keep on progressing big guy! Your going to have bad days too. You're going to have to learn how to deal with those too. But remember, this is a pass first Warner/Fitz/Breaston/Q/Whizenhundt offense. And they'll switch modes when they need to and you wont get carries. Patience young man. The day you breakout and show the world who Beanie Wells is is coming. Your a BEAST!
