PHOENIX — Mexican restaurant Barrio Queen is planning to open locations in Glendale and Avondale next year.

The 7,000-square-foot West Valley site is set to open near 75th Avenue and Bell Road in early spring of 2020.

“We have had a lot of requests to bring the Barrio to the west side,” restaurant management said in a press release.

“We have been looking for a while for the perfect spot for our brand and we believe we have found one in this area of Bell Road.”

Another location is planned for Avondale, the release stated, but no other details were immediately available.

Local artist Genaro Garcia will help design the restaurants, as he did with the other Barrio Queen locations.

The restaurant has spots in Scottsdale, Gilbert and north Phoenix, and two in Tempe and Queen Creek are expected to open in December.

Barrio Queen was named to USA Today’s top 10 best tableside guacamole list in 2016 and Esquire magazine’s best new restaurants in America list in 2012.
