Money woes nearly closed Phoenix pool

Jun 19, 2012, 3:45 PM | Updated: 3:55 pm

A popular Phoenix pool was nearly closed due to its state of disrepair and a lack of funds, but a group of local business teamed up to save the pool.

The condition of the pool, located at 755 E. Wiletta, had deteriorated to such extremes that Maricopa County had threatened to shut it down. Dana Campbell Saylor, CEO with the YWCA, said they had 90 days ti improve the state of the pool.

The renovation project had a $24,000 price tag and Saylor admitted that times are tough and they wouldn’t have the funds to fix it.

But then Valley businesses stepped in.

“Once I found out that they didn’t really have the funds to remodel the pool and the county was going shut them down, I wanted to do what I could do to help them out,” said Dane Palmero of Natural Reflections Pools and Spas.

Palmero started to work some magic and soon had six other companies on board to start the massive renovation on the two-decade-old pool.

“It’ll look beautiful,” said Palmero. “It will look like a brand-new pool.”

The project will be completed by August.

In addition to Natural Reflections Pools and Spas, Cal Plastering, Pentair Pool Products, The Pool Tile King, SCP (South Central Pool Supply), Universal White Cement and Prado and Songs Pool Plastering will be working on the YWCA pool.
