PHOENIX – Patches of fog around metro Phoenix were considerable enough to warrant an advisory for the Monday morning commute.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix issued a dense fog advisory in Maricopa County and beyond late Sunday that will last until 10 a.m. Monday.

The advisory includes Pinal, Gila and Pima counties all the way to the border with California.

“We aren’t used to seeing patchy, dense fog in the desert but it does happen from time to time,” Jared Heil, a meteorologist with the Phoenix weather bureau, told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

After a weekend of storms dropped 1.17 inches of rain – the highest two-day total in over three years, Heil said – all the moisture created the conditions for fog.

But the weather news isn’t all gray.

“There will be a little sunshine this afternoon,” Heil said.

Monday’s high is expected to reach 70 degrees.
