Hoffman grows lead in supt. race while Hobbs narrows secretary of state lead

PHOENIX — Updated vote counts in the superintendent of public instruction race between Democrat Kathy Hoffman and Republican Frank Riggs revealed an almost 43,000 vote lead for Hoffman.

The Democrat came into the day with a nearly 30,000 vote lead, that total grew almost 13,000 following the latest tallies.

Hoffman, a former teacher, was trailing by 8,000 at the end of election night with nearly 500,000 votes remaining. She took the lead by 20,000 after the Thursday count reveal and added another 10,000 vote advantage on Friday.

There are now approximately 268,000 votes remaining to be counted.

Secretary of state candidates, Republican Steve Gaynor and Democrat Katie Hobbs were also locked in an undeclared race as of Friday night with Gaynor leading by more than 10,000 votes.

After the Saturday count, Gaynor’s lead was cut to just 3,120 votes.

The state senate seat for District 28 between Republican Kate Brophy McGee and Democrat Christine Porter Marsh was also undeclared as of Friday with McGee in the lead by a narrow margin of 616 votes.

Updated counts show that McGee now leads by 617 votes.
