PHOENIX – Arizona cities have been ranked among some of the happiest places to live in the U.S. for the second straight year.
The study by WalletHub found Scottsdale and Gilbert to be among the happiest cities in the country from Arizona, but both dropped in the rankings from the year prior.
Scottsdale finished No. 14 overall this year out of 182 cities, dropping one spot from No. 13 last year.
Gilbert was listed at No. 20, dropping four spots from No. 16 in 2017. The East Valley city also placed third overall for the lowest separation and divorce rate, but was second in the same category last year.
Other Arizona cities included in the list were Chandler at No. 40, Peoria at No. 42, Tempe at No. 58, Mesa at No. 77, Glendale at No. 115, Phoenix at No. 122, and Tucson at No. 131.
In addition to its overall ranking, the City of Glendale also ranked fourth overall for the lowest income growth rate in the country.
WalletHub conducted the study using metrics based on three categories, including emotional and physical well-being, income and employment, and the community and environment.
Additional metrics were used to determine the city’s overall ranking, such as the city’s depression rate, sleep rate, sports-participation rate and suicide rate, among others.
Fremont, California was named the happiest city in the U.S. at No. 1 overall, with Detroit, Michigan finishing in last place at No. 182 for the second straight year.
