PHOENIX — For a decade, the Payson Christian Clinic has provided 13,000 free or low-cost medical visits to uninsured patients.

Even with providers bracing for a bigger number of Rim Country residents without medical insurance, it will continue to provide low-cost care for individuals in need.

“Increasing numbers of people are being priced out of health care and insurance. Many, including expectant mothers, children, and elderly are going without primary health care. Gila County has the second lowest number of physicians per capita in Arizona,” the clinic’s website states.

The clinic relies heavily on medical volunteers, while 60 percent of the clinic’s budget comes from Rim Country residents’ tax credit money.

“Payson Christian Clinic, staffed by volunteer doctors, medical professionals, counselors and office workers, provides affordable health care, well woman exams, and well child checkups for those without insurance,” the website said.

In all, there are 11 providers that make up the clinic.

Uninsured patients are never turned away, but there is a waiting list for appointments.

The clinic’s hours of operations are from 5-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. For information on the clinic and its services, please call (928) 468-2209, visit the clinic at 701 S. Ponderosa Suite B in Payson, Ariz. or go to its website by clicking here.

Patients are charged $20 per visit and the the fee covers medical care and laboratory work. If there are additional needs, the clinic will provide low-cost referrals.
