ADOT to hold public meetings regarding South Mountain Freeway

Sep 26, 2016, 3:55 PM

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation will hold three public meetings beginning this week to review and discuss updated designs plans for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

The first of these events will take place Tuesday at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix from 6-8 p.m. The second meeting will be held Wednesday at Betty Farifax High School in Laveen, with the final meeting coming on Oct. 6 at Fowler Elementary School in Phoenix.

Officials from ADOT, Connect 202 Partners and the rest of the project development team will on hand at all three meetings to provide updated information on the project. Design plans were last circulated for public comment in 2013.

“The public will be able to view the updated maps, locations of interchanges and the initial concepts for landscaping and aesthetics and much much more,” ADOT Public Information Officer Dustin Kruger said. “So if you’re interested in learning about the South Mountain Freeway, these three meetings are an excellent opportunity to see whats going on with the project.”

Each meeting will last from 6-8 p.m. and feature a one-hour presentation from ADOT officials beginning at 6:30 p.m. A question-and-answer session will immediately follow the presentation. In addition, attendees can visit various information desks to speak with project representatives until 8 p.m.

Construction on the South Mountain Freeway began last week with improvements to the I-10/Loop 202 interchange in the East Valley. The entire project is set to be completed by end of 2019, according to Kruger.

For more information on the project or any of the three meetings, visit ADOT’s South Mountain Freeway information page.
