PHOENIX – A man is fighting for his life after a random stabbing in Phoenix on Saturday.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, a man stabbed another man as he waited for a city bus Saturday morning, near 35th Avenue and Camelback Road. The man then fled the scene before surrendering to police a short time later.

“That’s when he indicated that perhaps he had some mental issues,” said Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a Phoenix police spokesperson.

Thompson said it appeared the two men did not know each other.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was in critical condition.
