Defensive driving will be on the minds of hundreds of the Valley’s newest drivers this weekend in Chandler. The Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience will take over the Firebird International Raceway Saturday and Sunday.
The experience is designed to provide the area’s newest drivers with the tools and skills to handle the environment of today’s roadways.
Four standalone sessions over the two days combine classroom work with real-life scenarios to teach things such as, accident avoidance and smart decision making. One of the tools used is a golf-cart.
“It sounds interesting with a golf cart, but it gets definitely a compelling result on why we shouldn’t text and drive and be distracted”, Bridgestone product specialist Tim Netzel said.
The lessons are designed for students between the ages of 15 and 21, but the family of the driver is encouraged to come out. The sessions go at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and are free to those who sign up.
