PHOENIX – Two Arizona hospitals, both Banner Health facilities in metro Phoenix, were rated among the nation’s 100 top hospitals for 2019 by IBM Watson Health.
Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix made the list under the major teaching hospital category, while Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West was cited along with the best large community hospitals.
According to a Banner press release, it was the second consecutive year University Medical Center made the list.
The Watson Health study, formerly known as Truven Health Analytics, has been using public data annually since 1993 to rate hospitals based on clinical, operational and financial metrics.
More than 2,700 hospitals met the study’s criteria for inclusion.
The study found that if all Medicare patients received the same level of care as was provided in the top 100 hospitals, it would save an estimated 103,000 lives and $8.2 billion in inpatient costs.
