PHOENIX — It has been a long time since it has been this hot on Thanksgiving in Phoenix. Over 65 years, in fact.
Phoenix tied the daily (Nov. 23) and Thanksgiving record-high temperature of 87 degrees Thursday, a record that has held since 1950, according to the National Weather Service.
The record hit at 2:56 p.m.
“You can’t say it’s unprecedented, but it’s pretty unusual,” meteorologist Marvin Percha said Wednesday of the heat on Thanksgiving.
Percha said Phoenix has experienced above-average temperatures since Oct. 10. Highs earlier last week flirted with the 90-degree mark, but never got there.
The warm temperatures will come during a long rainless streak. The last time Phoenix recorded measurable rainfall was Aug. 23.
