Chandler filling office space in a hurry

PHOENIX — Chandler has an office vacancy rate of below 5 percent.
Several Valley cities have rates many times above that.
“You have to expect Chandler to be well ahead of the game,” said economist Rick Merritt with Elliott D. Pollack and Company, “just because it’s concentrated in high tech with Intel as its anchor and that’s a very good sector of the economy that has not had a huge downturn.”
Merritt said, like other cities, Chandler is struggling to fill former big-box store sites.
“Over the years, particularly during the boom, there was too much retail developed relative to the population,” he said.
