In Arizona, Jeb Bush now says ‘I would not have gone into Iraq’

May 14, 2015, 1:16 PM | Updated: 5:31 pm

PHOENIX — Visiting Arizona on Thursday, Jeb Bush said it was a mistake to have invaded Iraq.

Bush, who was a guest of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, said at a gathering in Tempe that knowing what was known now, “I would not have gone into Iraq.”

The decision to invade the Middle Eastern country in 2003 was made by his older brother, President George W. Bush.

The topic has followed Bush this week after his answer to the question, would he as president, have invaded, changed from “I would have” to “I don’t know” within a couple of days.

Scrutiny of the 62-year-old has intensified since.

Bush hasn’t formally announced plans to run for the Republicans’ 2016 presidential nomination, but he may have tipped his hand Wednesday.

The former governor of Florida mentioned at a stop in Reno, Nevada that, “I’m running for president in 2016, and the focus is going to be about how we — if I run — how do you create sustained economic growth.”

He then pointed out that he wasn’t an official candidate but later said he would be making up his mind soon.

Bush toured the Four Peaks Brewery near Arizona State University and met with small business owners.
