Maricopa County offering free adoptions on some animals for month of June

PHOENIX — Maricopa County Animal Care will host an entire week of events and discount promotions to help animals and cut prices, they announced Monday.
Maricopa said its shelters remain full approaching Fourth of July, and they will waive adoption fees for the entire month of June for dogs over 40 pounds to try and create space. New pet owners will also be off the hook for spaying, neutering or necessary vaccination costs, as they are included.
Also, on June 10 and 11, adoption fees will be waived for any dog or cat more than three months old. That event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is part of a nationwide effort called “Just One Day,” when shelters are encouraged to dedicate one day to preventing euthanasia in every way they can and put animals into homes.
The adoption fee discounts apply at both the Phoenix shelter and the Mesa shelter, which is located at 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway.
On Saturday, Maricopa County Animal Care will offer a $5 microchip clinic to help keep as many animals out of their shelters as possible, as they’re approaching their busiest time of year. That runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. or while supplies last, a statement said.
They will also give away free animal ID tags Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The ID and microchip specials are only available at the Phoenix location at 2500 S. 27th Avenue.
The shelters will also transport 80 dogs to Pennsylvania on Friday in an effort to distribute homeless pets from what Maricopa County Animal Care called “high-intake animal shelters.” The flights are made by volunteer pilots and the animals will be given to Brandywine Valley SPCA. The transport program is called Wings of Rescue.
