New jobs data has revealed that Arizona’s semiconductor and electronics sector lost 2,400 jobs between May 2014 and May 2015.
The new data from the state Department of Administration showed that one of Arizona’s most vital industries has lost the most jobs of any sector in the state over the last 12 months.
The number is a drastic drop compared to other industries in the state. Those sectors have had either mild rises or stayed level in that same time period.
Arizona had 60,000 semiconductor jobs in 2000, but the number is now nearly cut in half to 32,800.
Arizona has been one of the signature U.S. states for semiconductor workers.
Earlier this week Intel was reportedly laying off a few hundred workers in Chandler.
