Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector discovered nine bales of marijuana that were dropped from an ultralight aircraft on Saturday evening.

About 11:30 p.m., agents were notified that the aircraft was circling an area near Somerton, Ariz.

“Agents arrived shortly after and located five bundles, one with the drop cage,” said Border Patrol Agent Spencer Tippets. “The marijuana was seized.”

Tippets said the effectiveness of border security in the Yuma Sector has forced the drug cartels to use extreme measures to get drugs into the United States.

Four other bundles were found nearby. The nine total bundles weighed 208.7 pounds and have an estimated street value of $484,880.
