PHOENIX – Dominium, a national affordable housing developer, is celebrating one new Valley apartment project this week and breaking ground on another.

Up first, the company will hold a grand opening Tuesday afternoon for Vista Ridge, a 308-unit community that recently opened in south Phoenix for individuals earning no more than 60% of area median income as part of the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program.

The property at 19th and Southern avenues consists of 12 three-story buildings — with one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

Vista Ridge was designed for working families, with a walk-in closet, granite countertops, low-energy windows, low-flow water fixtures and a patio or balcony in each unit.

The community amenities include a fitness room, pool, community kitchen, yoga studio, children’s activity center, pet wash station and courtyard.

What is Dominium’s affordable housing project in Goodyear?

On Wednesday, Dominium will break ground on two adjacent properties, totaling 657 apartments, in the area of Van Buren Street and Cotton Lane in Goodyear.

Estrella Springs will have 396 homes for families, with one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. Suncrest Vista will have 261 units of affordable housing for seniors.

Like with Vista Ridge, residents must earn less than 60% of the area median income to be eligible for residence at the Goodyear properties, which are expected to open in late 2025.

Who is building Goodyear affordable housing complexes?

W.D. Construction, a joint venture between Weis Builders and Dominium Construction and Architectural Services, is building the Goodyear project, which is Dominium’s largest undertaking in Arizona.

“Arizona’s tremendous need for workforce and senior affordable housing currently outpaces its supply,” Owen Metz, who leads Dominium’s Phoenix office, said in a press release.

“Dominium is thrilled to provide affordable and high-quality apartments for Arizona’s workers and seniors who can struggle with finding stable housing.”

The company, which also has offices in Atlanta, Dallas and Minneapolis, owns and manages more than 220 complexes with over 38,000 homes across the country.

Interest rates may have peaked. Should you buy a CD, high-yield savings account, or a fixed annuity?

Interest rates are the highest they’ve been in decades, and it looks like the Fed has paused hikes. This may be the best time to lock in rates for long-term, low-risk financial products like fixed annuities.
