PHOENIX — The mass-vaccination site at the University of Arizona will scale back hours early next month before closing up shop in late June, school officials said Thursday.

The last day for the site, which is moving all indoors on Monday to offset rising temperatures, will be June 25.

Dr. Cara Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services, said earlier in April that state-run sites were being monitored as demand decreased to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

“If we have no demand, it’s not going to make sense to staff and run these major sites, so we will be watching it through May and hopefully wrapping up by the end of June,” Christ said during a press conference.

On May 10, operating hours at the site will shift from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The site will move to administering only second doses on June 1. Those hours will be cut down to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The UArizona location has administered more than 200,000 vaccine doses since opening in February.

The state has seven mass-vaccination sites in operation.

All adults across Arizona are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines, with the minimum age at 16 for the Pfizer shot and 18 for other approved versions.

Anyone can walk in to a state-run site and receive a shot without an appointment.

Appointments can still be booked online at https://podvaccine.azdhs.gov/ or by calling 844-542-8201.
