PHOENIX – Police have released the identity of the man found dead along with a child and two dogs in what’s being called a “family shooting” in Mesa last week.

The woman who called 911 seeking help on April 14 also had been shot, the Mesa Police Department revealed Tuesday in a press release.

Police said they are awaiting the results of forensic testing to figure out what happened at the home near Ellsworth and Brown roads, but investigators don’t believe any suspects are outstanding.

No details have been made available about the relationship of the people involved, but the release referred to the incident as a “family shooting.”

Officers found James Thompson along with a child whose age and gender haven’t been released and the animals deceased with gunshot wounds just before 8 p.m.

They’d responded to a call from a woman who said both of her eyes were injured.

The initial police account said the woman was hospitalized with a serious eye injury but didn’t mention that she’d been shot.

Tuesday’s release said a gunshot wound to the head caused her to lose her vision.

We want to hear from you.
