PHOENIX – A steel and metal maker plans to invest $300 million in a micro mill that will expand its presence in Mesa and add nearly 200 jobs.
City leaders and the Arizona Commerce Authority made the announcement Monday that Commercial Metals Company of Texas expected the facility to open in early 2023.
The site will employ 185. Commercial Metals first opened a mill in the East Valley city in 2009.
“We are proud of the work they do here in Mesa and look forward to their continued success,” Mayor John Giles said in a press release.
The company envisions the new facility will help meet demands from the West Coast.
“The significant investment by Commercial Metals Company further strengthens Arizona’s robust manufacturing industry,” Gov. Doug Ducey said in a press release.
The company said the new mill would eventually bring about 1,000 jobs to the state, including related businesses.
“We are excited to announce the expansion of our footprint in the state with the construction of our third, state-of-the-art micro mill,” CMS President and CEO Barbara R. Smith said in the press release.
