Amazon delivering new facility, ‘hundreds of jobs’ to Surprise in 2021

PHOENIX – Online retail behemoth Amazon is planning to deliver a new facility and “hundreds of jobs” to the West Valley next year.
“We are excited to increase our investment in Surprise with a new delivery station to provide fast and efficient delivery for customers, and provide hundreds of job opportunities for the talented local workforce,” Amazon spokeswoman Lisa Guinn told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email on Thursday.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the 145,491-square-foot facility will sit on a 38-acre site near Litchfield and Waddell roads.
The website also reported that Amazon recently completed a deal to buy about 90 acres of land near Indian School Road and the Loop 303 in Goodyear for just under $20 million.

The company aims to open the Surprise delivery station in 2021 but wasn’t more specific about a targeted starting date.
Amazon has been the rare company to see its business strengthen during the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to more shopping from home.
The Seattle-based company said its second-quarter profit doubled to $5.2 billion from last year while revenue soared 40% to $88.9 billion.
Amazon struggled to keep up with orders as online shopping surged in the spring amid widespread lockdowns, but the company has since hired extra workers started paying bonuses to warehouse workers.
In June, the company said it was offering permanent full-time positions to more than 4,000 Arizona seasonal employees who’d been hired in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
