PHOENIX — Phoenix tied its daily heat record at 112 degrees Wednesday, a peak temperature that hasn’t been broken since 1974, according to the National Weather Service.

It was the first day of the year over 110 degrees in Phoenix, making it the hottest day for the city so far in 2019.

An excessive heat warning was put in place in the Valley from Tuesday through Thursday.

Phoenix was expected to peak at 112 degrees Thursday and cool off a little toward the weekend, with a high of 105 degrees Friday and 103 on Saturday.

In a map made by the weather service, much of the Phoenix area was shown to experience heat that is “rare, dangerous and deadly” this week.

The weather service reminded Arizonans to stay hydrated, watch for signs of heat exhaustion (headache, dizziness, nausea and cool, moist, pale skin) and not leave children or pets in cars.

Anyone needing help to beat the heat this summer can find cooling stations set up around the Valley, including 12 by the Salvation Army and nearly 60 by the city of Phoenix.

The stations offer air-conditioning, bottled water and other resources.

We want to hear from you.
