PHOENIX — Dense fog in southern Arizona caused headaches for travelers early Monday morning after the Tucson International Airport halted flights due to the weather.

Airport officials announced a ground stop due to fog around 7 a.m.

The ground stop was lifted just before 8 a.m.

It was not immediately clear how many flights were affected.

There was a dense fog advisory in effect until 9 a.m.

Dense fog was also affecting parts of the Phoenix area, but did not impact flights in or out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, per spokeswoman Heather Lissner.

Chris Kuhlman with the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the fog was impacting parts of the West Valley to south of the Interstate 10.

“It’ll be mainly a small area of the Valley,” he said.

Kuhlman said the fog would “move up and down a little bit, depending on how it drifts,” but it was expected to stay south of Phoenix.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jim Cross contributed to this report.
