PHOENIX — A domesticated bird decked out in a bejeweled outfit that ended up in suburban Phoenix animal shelter will be going home safe and sound Tuesday.

The bird rescuers at Fallen Feathers in Peoria wrote that owners texted them that the pigeon they found and named Liberace was, in fact, “independent” Olive, who had been missing since Nov. 7.

Olive’s family said in the post that she was the “easiest pet to care for” of their menagerie, that included four rescue dogs and a cat.

“We were all deeply saddened with the thought of never seeing Olive again… and my husband the poet was devastated. His healing started with a poem he wrote after she did not return in two days,” the post read.

Olive was found in Glendale, near 61st Avenue and Bell Road. She was wearing a jump suit covered in Swarovski crystals.

Workers at the shelter made her another suit, but “due to budget issues, we have to step down the crystals and go old school bedazzling,” according to a Facebook post from Sunday.

The family said Olive loves shiny objects and has a history of making off with them.

“We have yet to find where she is making a nest or a nest egg or both… given all the items that have gone missing,” the post read.

Now that she’s back, there is no telling what Olive will do at Christmas.

We want to hear from you.
