PHOENIX — A Phoenix photographer captured spectacular images of giant walls of dust, known as haboobs, on Monday as monsoon storms wreaked havoc across Arizona.

Mike Olbinski posted photos and videos to his social media accounts showing the haboobs in all their glory.

In one post, he explained his day of storm chasing between Phoenix and Yuma.

Woke up in Blythe, CA, drove to Phoenix, hung out for 30 minutes, then raced south to chase storms near the border, then back north and we end up about 5 miles from the CA border in Yuma when we stopped chasing : ) Over 600 miles today.

Words can’t do it justice, so here’s a selection of Olbinski’s awe-inspiring work:

You can find more on Olbinski’s Twitter feed.

Many parts of the Valley saw at least a half-inch of rain from the monsoon outburst.

The storms knocked out power for tens of thousands of customers in the Phoenix area.

Rain accumulated southeast of the Valley all the way to the northwest. Roads and freeways were limited through the rush hour commute due to low visibility from the dust and rain.

We want to hear from you.
