PHOENIX — Love the idea of a reading buddy but hate the idea of human interaction?
Join Ruff Draft, a book club that reads to shelter pets at the Arizona Animal Welfare League.
The AAWL website said studies show there are positive impacts that “simple interactions” like reading can have on dogs and cats.
“Shy dogs can help gain confidence, energetic dogs learn how to be calm and relax, curious kittens learn to trust and play with people,” the site said.
Changing Hands Bookstore donated books for club members to use.
There is no cost to join Ruff Draft.
The June book of the month will be “Where’d You Go Bernadette” by Maria Semple.
The meeting will be on June 27 at the main shelter, located at 25 N. 40th St. in Phoenix.
