Former Maricopa County prosecutor’s disbarment to take effect in July

PHOENIX — The Arizona Supreme Court has declined a request by a former
Maricopa County prosecutor to let her continue practicing law until the court
rules on an appeal of her disbarment.
Instead, Lisa Aubuchon’s disbarment will take effect on July 2.
A three-member ethics panel of the Arizona courts disbarred Aubuchon and former
Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas after finding, in part, that they broke
criminal laws in knowingly bringing false bribery charges against a judge.
The panel also concluded that evidence suggests Maricopa County Sheriff Joe
Arpaio had conspired with Thomas to intimidate the judge by bringing the
charges.
The sheriff faces no punishment from the panel.
Aubuchon is appealing the panel’s decision to the state Supreme Court.
