Stanley Cup, NHL interactive experience to make stop in Phoenix area

PHOENIX — The National Hockey League is in the midst of its 100th year in existence.
To celebrate the centennial, the NHL has created a traveling fan experience it named the Fan Arena.
Arizona Coyotes fans and hockey fans in general around the Valley will get their chance to experience the celebration, as the arena is coming to Tempe Marketplace on Saturday and Sunday.
The event features a pop-up ball hockey arena, a virtual reality Zamboni race, an entertainment truck, a museum truck, interactive experiences, locker room experiences, and even the Stanley Cup.
“Whether you are a die-hard hockey fan or you’re just getting introduced to the sport, there really is something for everyone,” NHL Manager of Communications Jasmine Ghafour said.
Though the fan arena will travel to every NHL market across the United States and Canada, certain interactions and experiences will be configured to match whatever team is in that market.
So when the event comes to Tempe this weekend, fans should expect a lot of Coyotes memorabilia and interactive stunts.
The event begins at noon on Saturday, and will last until 9 p.m., before picking back up at noon on Sunday and going until 5 p.m. The Stanley Cup will be there on Saturday from 2-6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
A viewing party for the Coyotes game against the New York Islanders on Saturday night starts at 5:30 p.m.
“I think fans are going to be very surprised,” Ghafour said. “Wayne Gretzky did a tour inside the truck just the other day and he was floored by how interesting and innovative it was, so fans should definitely come down and check it all out.”
