PHOENIX — According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, drivers heading across the Valley will not encounter any freeway closures for construction over the holiday weekend.
From Dec. 25 to Jan. 3, Arizona Department of Transportation officials said while there will not be any scheduled, complete freeway closures or additional restrictions due to construction, drivers should still be aware of the possible delays caused from ongoing work zones, including Interstate 10 between Benson and Tucson and the Interstate 15 in the Virgin River Gorge.
Arizona Department of Transportation officials said they encourage drivers to “focus on safe driving” and be aware of the environment around them this holiday season.
Other tips Arizona Department of Transportation officials gave for drivers this holiday season were:
- Plan to check and service your vehicle ahead of taking any long-term travels in it
- Make sure you are fully awake and aware while behind the wheel
- Remember: “Aggressive driving is the path to the Dark Side.”
- Be prepared for any unscheduled road closures due to accidents
- Bring along any necessary equipment for driving through rough conditions, such as snow, sleet and ice
- Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle at all times in case of accidents
- Last but certainly not least: Under any conditions, do not drive impaired.
Save yourself and others from the deadly dangers of drunk driving by bringing along a designated driver, calling a taxi cab or using a ride-sharing service like Uber, which is offering new and existing users discounts on rides for the holidays.
