Grand Canyon implements fire restrictions

Jun 8, 2012, 9:05 AM | Updated: 9:06 am

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — The Grand Canyon has become the latest
place to ban campfires.

The National Park Service said hot, dry and windy conditions have increased
fire danger at the canyon.

Starting Friday morning, all wood-burning fires are prohibited at campgrounds
and in residential areas at the South Rim.

The restrictions are expected to last until the monsoon season arrives.

Officials said they’re hopeful the ban will reduce the chance of accidental
fires starting in the park.
