PHOENIX — Former Major League Baseball All-Star Albert Belle was charged with extreme DUI and indecent exposure near Scottsdale, authorities said.
Belle was arrested late Saturday at Phoenix Rising Soccer Club Stadium on tribal land. Salt River police took the 51-year-old into custody on the Salt River-Pima Indian Community.
Booking information at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office listed one count of DUI with blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or higher for Belle.
The ex-slugger also faced one count of DUI (using liquor, drugs or vapors). Another man, who was not identified, also was arrested.
Police said they received reports that both men had exposed themselves in the stadium parking lot to two adults and two juveniles before getting into a car.
Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description from witnesses in traffic leaving the facility.
Belle has previously dealt with substance issues. Shortly into his career, Belle underwent treatment for alcohol abuse.
He was a five-time All-Star during an 11-year career with the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
The majority of his career was spent with Cleveland.
He left the game with 1,239 RBI, 381 homers and a .295 batting average.
Belle, who made his major league debut as Joey Belle, retired in 2000, forced out by a hip injury.
