These downtown Phoenix streets will be restricted for Cactus Bowl game

PHOENIX — The holidays are officially over but the gifts just keep on coming.

The Cactus Bowl will be held at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday, pitting the UCLA Bruins against the Kansas State Wildcats.

The event will bring people from across the Valley and the nation to downtown Phoenix, causing major traffic and road restrictions in the area.

Traffic will be snarled in the area starting around 5 p.m., two hours before kickoff, and will remain so until about 10:30 p.m., when the game is expected to end.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis with the Phoenix Police Department, the following traffic restrictions will be in place on Tuesday:

• 4th and Jefferson streets, southbound

• 4th Street northbound will be closed at the railroad tracks

• 3rd and Jackson streets

There will also be events for the Cactus Bowl that will effect roadway restrictions.

“People who live and work in the area that are familiar with the closures that we have for the influx of traffic for these events should not see too much of a difference,” Lewis said.

Lewis said those visiting the downtown area for the game or other events and activities should plan for an increased amount of traffic and should consider using other means of transportation, such as the light rail.

The ride-sharing app Uber will also be offering a discount code to new users, who can get a free ride up to $15 with the code CACTUSBOWL.
