Study finds sex trafficking victims in Arizona courts

May 26, 2014, 7:23 AM | Updated: 7:23 am

PHOENIX — An Arizona State University report has found more than 150 sex
trafficking victims in the state’s juvenile court system.

Researchers at the ASU School of Social Work plan to present the results of the
survey Tuesday at a meeting of the Arizona Human Trafficking Council.

According to the study, 161 juveniles who are getting treatment or services
through the court said they had been forced or coerced into sexual acts in
exchange for money or goods.

Cindy McCain, who co-chaired a state task force on the issue, will also be at
the meeting to discuss the report.

Gov. Jan Brewer appointed a task force to examine how Arizona laws combat human
trafficking.

The ASU report, which was done in March, was funded by the McCain Institute for
International Leadership.
