PHOENIX — A closure of westbound Intestate 10 in the East Valley that will restrict access to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is among this weekend’s freeway restrictions.

Westbound I-10 will be closed between the U.S. 60 interchange and 40th Street near the airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for asphalt removal as part of the new I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Westbound U.S. 60 ramps to westbound I-10, the westbound I-10 on- and off-ramps between Baseline Road and 40th Street and the Westbound U.S. 60 on-ramps at McClintock Drive, Rural Road and Mill Avenue will all be closed as part of the project.

East Valley drivers who normally would use westbound I-10 or northbound SR 143 to go to Sky Harbor Airport should plan an alternate route.

An option would be using Loop 101 and the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to reach exits to the airport.

In the northeast Valley, the eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed between Tatum Boulevard and Pima Road and Princess Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for lane striping as part of a widening project.

Northbound State Route 51 ramps to eastbound Loop 101 and eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Cave Creek Road will also closed.

Those driving just south of downtown Phoenix should also be aware of a closure on Central Avenue in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday to noon on Saturday for bridge work. Central Avenue will be limited to local traffic only in areas between Buckeye and Broadway roads.

Near Maricopa, State Route 347 will be narrowed to one lane in either direction in areas between Casa Blanca Road and Cobblestone Farms Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement maintenance.
