Pedestrian crossing street in Phoenix hit by SUV, dies

PHOENIX – A man crossing a street in Phoenix was hit by an SUV and killed early Thursday, police said.

The unidentified man was walking near 22nd Avenue and Indian School Road shortly past midnight when an SUV struck him, Phoenix Police Department Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The woman driving the SUV stayed to answer police questions. Police said she showed signs of impairment and was arrested, cited and released.

No other details were immediately available.

The investigation remains active, police said.
