PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — Some residents in Paradise Valley want to know
why the town recently installed cameras in fake saguaros.

One cactus camera was installed at the roundabout near 40th Street and
Standford last Tuesday.

Paradise Valley Town Manager Kevin Burke told Phoenix TV station Fox 10 that the
town was embarking on the installation of license plate readers.

He said it was part of a $2 million police technology upgrade.

Burke said the cameras will run license plates of cars against a hotlist
database.

If the car was stolen or the subject of an amber alert, police will be notified.

Burke said the cameras weren’t active yet and that they weren’t being put in fake cactus to be secretive but
because there were no light poles in the area to hold them.

We want to hear from you.
