Here’s how to deal with booked travel during coronavirus outbreak

PHOENIX — With growing concerns over the coronavirus, what should those who have a trip on the books do?
“You have to ask yourself this question: Do I want to fly?” travel expert Anne McDermott of travel site FareCompare told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona Morning News on Tuesday.
But her biggest recommendation for uncertain travelers is to do some research.
“Look at some resources like the CDC.gov,” she said. “The Center for Disease Control has excellent and easy-to-digest information all about coronavirus and it has information for travelers.”
But what about those who are going international? Check with Travel.state.gov.
McDermott added, “Do a little more research. It’s not hard. The information is out there to help you make a decision.”
For those who decide they want to fly, McDermott recommends paying attention to what you pack.

“Have part of the essentials that you’re going to pack be your daily medications,” she said.
McDermott added, “Here’s what I suggest, and I say this as a worst-case scenario person: Pack enough of your medications, your prescriptions, for two weeks use after your trip ends.”
That way just in case you need to be quarantined for the recommended 14 days, at least you’ll be ready.
In the event you do want to cancel or reschedule your tip, most airlines are waiving change fees.
“What they’re trying to do is offer travelers a little peace of mind by saying, ‘Come and book with us and book through this date’ — typically through the end of March,” McDermott said.
She expects the extension for free flight changes will extend as the virus continues.
