PHOENIX– A national tour calling on higher taxes for the rich and corporations made a stop in Phoenix on Monday.

The Tax the Rich Bus Tour is led by the Tax March, a group that advocates for closing loopholes for the wealthy and big corporations.

“Working people are waking up daily to an economy that prioritizes the wealthy few instead of them,” said CJ Warnke, one of the organizers of the bus tour.

He said all that can change “if the rich and corporations pay their fair share.”

Warnke was among several who spoke during the bus tour’s visit to Phoenix.

The tour is making stops in 19 states. It kicked off on June 26 and will end in Detroit on July 30, right before the second Democratic presidential debate.

It is also meant to highlight the impact of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that President Donald Trump signed into law.

Luis Falcon, a representative from Arizona Congressman’s office, spoke at Monday’s event and said the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was sold as an advantage to the middle class.

“But we know now what the public knows that it primarily benefits wealthy and corporations that offshore American jobs,” Falcon said.

Others have pointed to the positive impact Trump’s tax plan.

Several companies gave their employees bonuses as a result of the tax plan. U-Haul, which is based in Phoenix, was one of those companies. It sent a memo to employees letting them know it would give out $23 million in bonuses.

Meanwhile, Arizona billionaire and GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons said he was issuing $1.3 million in bonuses to employees.
