PHOENIX – An undisclosed buyer recently plunked down more than $3.5 million in cash for a luxury estate on the southeast edge of South Mountain Park in Phoenix.

The $3,562,500 deal was a record for the Ahwatukee neighborhood, according to a press release from Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty, who listed the property.

The seven-bedroom, 11-bathroom home was built in 2000 for Eric Crown, co-founder of technology company Insight Enterprises.

The buyer may actually have found a bargain. The property had been listed on and off over the last 2½ years for as much as $6,475,000, according to Zillow.

The Equestrian Trails subdivision estate with unobstructed views of South Mountain previously sold for $3,250,000 in 2011.

“This property marks a new era for Ahwatukee’s luxury home market. It shows there are luxury buyers who will pay for a quality home,” agent Oriana Lehman Wood said in a press release.

“After nearly three years on and off the market, we are proud of the tenacity and belief we had in this property.”

The 14,127-square-foot, Mediterranean-style, three-level main house boasts a “Harry Potter style” library with built-in bookcases and a weather-sensing retractable glass pyramid roof.

That’s in addition to a game room, media room, loft, exercise room and chef’s kitchen, plus a Romeo and Juliet master suite balcony.

Out back, there’s a 1,278-square-foot, two-bedroom guest house, built-in barbecue, pool and more.

The estate, which has been featured as a Wall Street Journal House of the Day, was designed by Scottsdale architect David Dick.
