Interstate 10 closed in both directions south of Phoenix area near Eloy

PHOENIX – Interstate 10 was shut down in both directions south of the Phoenix area, near Eloy, because of a fatal accident Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Westbound I-10 traffic toward the Valley was forced to exit at milepost 219, while eastbound traffic toward Tucson was closed at milepost 211, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The accident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m., involved multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said one person was killed and four others suffered minor injuries.
Traffic was unable to reach the State Route 87 exit because of the accident near Picacho Peak.
Drivers were asked to delay travel or use alternate routes.
There was no estimated time for the freeway to be reopened.
