PHOENIX – The Phoenix Zoo has a new mane man.
A 3½-year-old African lion named Boboo (pronounced Bah-boo) arrived from the Columbus Zoo on Sunday, but you can’t see him just yet.
According to a press release, Phoenix Zoo keepers want to make sure their reigning queen of the beasts, 20-year-old Cookie, will accept her new roomie (they aren’t a breeding pair).
The lions will get the chance to know each other behind the scenes. If they get along, they will be on display together. If not, they’ll be rotated into view separately.
Boboo is expected to appear for the first time in a week or two, the release said.
He is a full brother to Kitambi, the 8-year-old Phoenix Zoo lion who died last August from a severe systemic infection.
Their parents are the Columbus Zoo’s Tomo and Asali.
According to the release, Columbus keepers say Boboo is smart and spunky.
