PHOENIX — Asian elephant Indu underwent a successful medical procedure at the Phoenix Zoo last week.
Indu, a 53-year-old female elephant, had been experiencing abdominal and urinary discomfort and did not respond to treatments for a urinary tract infection.
Veterinarians passed an endoscope into her bladder and found signs of a chronic bladder inflammation.
The vets did not see any signs of cancer or urinary stones, which were possible causes of the discomfort.
Indu is doing well and is receiving the usual TLC from her keepers!

The vets collected biopsies and bacterial cultures from Indu’s bladder wall to help develop a treatment plan.
A spokeswoman for the zoo said Indu is doing well and is under supervision of her keepers.
