Child crossing street west of Phoenix hit by truck, killed

PHOENIX — An 11-year-old child crossing a street in Peoria was hit by a truck and killed Wednesday, police said.
The accident near 77th and Peoria avenues closed the intersection for hours.
Police said the driver was heading east on Peoria Avenue around 3:15 p.m. when the boy ran out in front of the truck and was struck.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
