PHOENIX — A 74-year-old woman was beaten in her bed and subsequently bound and robbed around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday near 35th and Northern avenues, police said.

The woman was able to free herself and call for help. She was hospitalized with very severe injuries, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Around noon on Thursday, 20-year-old John Eaves was arrested driving the woman’s vehicle, a 2007 Mercedes Benz.

He fled from police but crashed into a parked car. Eaves ran away, but a K-9 unit helped take him into custody.

Charges included aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
