One dead after tractor-trailer crash on eastbound I-10 west of Phoenix

Oct 24, 2017, 5:57 AM | Updated: 9:17 am

PHOENIX — Two tractor-trailer rigs collided on eastbound Interstate 10 near Tonopah in west-central Arizona, killing one of the drivers.

The wreck Tuesday morning approximately 45 miles west of Phoenix closed eastbound I-10 following the collision but the Arizona Department of Transportation said the highway partially reopened shortly after 6 a.m.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Kameron Lee said the deceased driver’s truck caught fire after rear-ending another big rig.

A passenger in the truck that caught fire was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while the driver of the other truck had only very minor injuries.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said the best detour route would be to use exit 103, go south to Salome Highway, then southeast to Baseline Road and then north on State Route 85 to get back to the interstate.

Drivers should consider alternate routes and expect delays throughout the morning.
