PHOENIX — A Mexican-food restaurant that shares a history with a popular chain in metro Phoenix has filed for bankruptcy.

Los Dos Molinos in Phoenix’s Ahwatukee community filed Chapter 11 documents in late June but planned to stay open, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.

Although the casual-dining restaurant shares the same name as the family-owned eateries in Phoenix, Mesa and Springerville, the 48th Street and Warner Road site is not part of that group.

The restaurant opened in January 2011 near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard.

The original Los Dos Molinos, known for its spicy menu, opened in Springerville in 1977. Eddie and Victoria Chavez followed up that success by adding the East Valley eatery on Alma School Road near Broadway Road.

The family also launched locations in Phoenix at Central Avenue and Dobbins Road and 10th Street and Camelback Road.

Their daughter, Cheryl Chavez, opened the Ahwatukee restaurant.

We want to hear from you.
