Veterans Affairs signs lease for future Scottsdale location

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Veterans in Scottsdale will soon be able to receive care at a new health clinic.
Officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs signed a lease Thursday on a nearly 6,900-square-foot space in the Ancala Medical Plaza near 113th Street and Via Linda. It will provide state-of-the-art medical care for as many as 3,000 veterans.
“Basically, they’re going to be surrounded with care,” said Phoenix VA Interim Director Glenn Costie. “They’re going to have a doctor, a nurse, an LPN and a clerk that will be assigned to their care, and they will have the same team giving them care throughout their time at this clinic.
“We also will have mental health services for those veterans who want to explore those needs in their lives.”
The clinic is expected to be open by April 2015. It is one of three VA projects planned for the Phoenix area.
“(There’s also) a 20,000-square-foot facility and a 30,000-square-foot facility,” Costie said. “These are all considered short-term bridges until we can get the large, 300,000-square-foot healthcare center that was provided in the Choice Act.”
The Choice Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama last summer. It provides $17 billion for veteran’s healthcare nationwide.
During a visit to Phoenix last August, VA Secretary Bob McDonald announced Phoenix would be getting the massive $20 million clinic. The target date for completion is 2019.
