Phoenix mayor promoting reflective rooftops

PHOENIX — Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton will take to city rooftops Saturday in the name of sustainable energy use.

“We received a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies and we’re going to be painting the roof of one of city buildings white,” said Stanton. “I’ll be personally doing it. It’s an easy thing you can do for energy efficiency.”

PHX Cool Roofs is a citywide initiative to cover 70,000 square feet of rooftops with reflective paint to cut energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently the city’s 1,500 buildings and recreation centers account for nearly half of the city’s overall greenhouse emissions.

The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5 percent by 2015.

We want to hear from you.
